Introducing the sound pack "WAVE 2.8" for Massive X!
The WAVE 2.8 collection provides you with inspiring presets for Massive X based on the legendary PPG Wave system. The PPG Wave 2 series of synthesizers are incredibly great sounding analog/digital hybrid vintage synths. They use digital samples of wavetables and feature analog VCA envelope and VCF sections. Until the early 1980s, the tonal palette of commercial synthesizers was limited to that which could be obtained by combining a few simple waveforms such as sine, sawtooth, pulse. PPG founder Wolfgang Palm transcended this limitation by pioneering the concept of wavetable synthesis, where single cycle waveforms of differing harmonic spectra were stored in adjacent memory slots. Later, the Waveterm was launched, a monitor for sampling, audio editing, sequencing and creating user-defined wavetables.
I remember visiting a PPG showroom with my father when I was 17. At first, there were only a few models. I was very impressed by the concept, as I had already heard many sounds on albums, especially by SAGA, Kajagoogoo and Robert Palmer. What SAGA keyboardist Jim Gilmour programmed in terms of sounds is still the benchmark for creativity and perfect sound in a song for me today. Needless to say, I didn't want to leave the showroom. On the way home, I tried to convince my father to skip buying the next small car and buy the PPG Wave system instead. My father was always very generous, but in this case...
I spent some time considering whether to create a sound pack with these sounds, because some things are simply not easy to reproduce. But what would life be without challenges? I was simply too intrigued by what else you can do with Massive X, and I realized: The sky is the limit. I also listened to current hardware synthesizers such as 3rd Wave and Iridium and drew inspiration from their presets.
All sounds have been programmed with attention to detail. Class is more important than many sounds of which only a few are used in the end. The WAVE 2.8 sound pack contains 50 premium presets, with additional sound variations available for some sounds. The presets are very variable with the macro controls, aftertouch, modulation wheel. Note: I have added two additional presets from the "J8 Vintage Polysynth" collection because they also fit perfectly with the PPG sound.
